Commissions
Commissioning an original painting can feel both exciting and uncertain — especially if it’s something you’ve never done before.
My commission process is intentionally gentle and collaborative. It’s designed for people who are drawn to my work and would like a piece created in conversation with them, rather than to a fixed brief.
Is a commission right for you?
Commissions work best when there’s trust.
A commission may be a good fit if:
• You connect strongly with my existing work
• You’re open to interpretation rather than exact outcomes
• You value emotional resonance over precision
• You’re comfortable allowing the process to unfold
Commissions may not be the right fit if:
• You’re looking for an exact replica of an existing piece
• You need full control over every decision
• You’re working to a tight deadline
This clarity helps protect the work — and your experience of it.
Starting the conversation
Every commission begins with a conversation, not a commitment.
You’re welcome to share:
• What draws you to my work
• Any feelings, themes, or moments you’d like the piece to hold
• Where the painting might live
• Approximate size range
You don’t need to know exactly what you want — part of the process is discovering it together.
The creative process
I work intuitively and slowly, allowing the painting to evolve rather than be designed in advance.
Typically, the process includes:
• A shared starting point (feeling, theme, or intention)
• Time for exploration, layering, and pause
• Occasional progress updates (if desired)
I don’t produce preliminary sketches or fixed mock-ups.
This allows the work to remain honest and alive.
Timeframes
Most commissions take between 6–10 weeks, depending on size and complexity.
This includes:
• Creative development
• Drying time
• Finishing and preparation for delivery
If you’re working toward a specific date, it’s always worth checking availability early.
Pricing & payment
Commission pricing reflects size, materials, and time, and is in line with my existing work.
A typical structure:
• 30–50% deposit to secure the commission
• Balance due once the painting is complete, prior to delivery
Payment plans can be discussed — just ask.
Trust & decision-making
Because commissions involve trust, completed works are not altered once finished.
You’re commissioning my interpretation — shaped by your input, but guided by my practice and instincts.
This ensures the final piece is cohesive, resolved, and true to the work you were drawn to in the first place.
Delivery & aftercare
Once complete, your painting will be carefully packaged and delivered, with guidance on handling and hanging.
I’m always happy to answer questions after the work arrives — the relationship doesn’t end at delivery.
A final note
The most meaningful commissions often begin with curiosity rather than certainty.
If you’re drawn to the work and open to the process, we’ll likely create something that feels quietly right.
To enquire about a commission, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
I’ll always let you know honestly whether it feels like a good fit.
